To light up with respect for nature
Famous for bird watching activities, extended nature reserves and – last but not least- an important breeding ground for sea turtles, Port Hedland is located in Australia, in the beautiful Pilbara region on the country’s north-west coast. It is located about 1,500 km north of Perth and it is one of the main ports in Australia, known for exporting iron ore. This is where the outdoor lighting solutions by Francesconi Architectural Light, chosen by the Sii Light Lighting Design, Klaasen Lighting Design and Italstyle Lighting Design studios, have elegantly enhanced "The Hedland Hotel", a resort designed by Alan Ross Architects (ARArc) overlooking the shores of the Indian Ocean.
Surrounded by sand dunes and green tropical plants, the building houses a purely receptive structure on one side, consisting of rooms and studios, and many facilities for a complete stay, as an outdoor pool, bars and two restaurants on the other side. The main purpose of the lighting project was to avoid interference with the natural balance of the local night ecosystem, to prevent light pollution in those areas dedicated to the reproduction of tortoises and, at the same time, to highlight the architecture with focused and plain beams. The use of amber-colored LED lights was a crucial choice for the success of the project: at sunset, the lamps turn on and envelop the resort in a very warm light, creating an impressive spectacular effect that well matches with the wonderful Australian sunsets, without any light dispersion. Francesconi Architectural Light is daily engaged in the creation of lighting solutions - also customized solutions - aimed at minimizing the environmental impact, combining efficiency and maximum quality of light.
Thanks to a careful study of light distribution and the use of precision optics, Francesconi products grant light only where it is needed, avoiding unwanted dispersions towards the sky or in unnecessary areas. In addition to the attention and respect for the surrounding nature, great effort has been dedicated to the finishing of products. In order to meet all the design and sustainability requirements, Brick Collection was chosen in its bollard version, specifically designed with elliptical optics and LEDs at 1800°K colour temperature. The products have undergone Francesconi’s process of high-resistance painting, created by the company thanks to the use of nanotechnology, which consists of an extra resistant double coating, specially designed for environments characterized by aggressive environmental conditions, such as maritime areas, where high salinity and constant humidity affect building materials.
Francesconi products are designed following strict criteria, using high quality materials and cutting-edge technologies to reduce the environmental impact, in compliance with the Company’s Official Certification ISO9001:2015 procedures. Francesconi Architectural Light follows the international regulations against light pollution and collaborates with lighting designers and urban planners to develop solutions that combine aesthetics, functionality and eco-compatibility. Now that light is increasingly becoming an integral part of the urban and natural landscape, Francesconi Architectural Light demonstrates that it is possible to illuminate the world respecting the sky, nature and mankind.
